Administrative History
In 1981 Mrs. Hilda S. Comfort donated $25,000 to establish a Memorial Study Award for rural students, in memory of her son, John. The Comfort family has strong roots in agriculture; John's grandfather, John Comfort, developed a dairy farm in the Red Deer area in 1906. The United Farmers of Alberta Co-op was invited to serve on the Comfort Memorial Award Committee at its inception. Rural Education and Development Association administered the awards. Award winners were selected by Goldeye Grad Seminar staff; award presentations were made at Goldeye.
