Administrative History
The Farmers' Union and Co-operative Development Association was formed in 1959 at the instigation of the Farmers' Union of Alberta, the United Farmers of Alberta Co-operative, and other co-op enterprises that served the agriculture industry of Alberta. Its objectives included development of rural leaders through education, promotion of the co-operative movement, and assistance to rural communities. For many years it was involved with educational programs for youth. Around 1967 it was renamed the Rural Education and Development Association (REDA). In 2005 REDA amalgamated with the Alberta Co-op Council, becoming the Alberta Community and Co-operative Association (ACCA).
