Administrative History
Perren Baker was born in Blenheim, Ontario in 1877. He completed a B.A. at McMaster University and did post-graduate work there and at the University of Chicago. He obtained a homestead in the Nemiskam area in 1910. He was the first president of the Alterado local of the UFA. He also operated a small coal mine and became a trustee of the Wild Horse School. Baker won the Medicine Hat electoral district in 1921 as a UFA candidate, winning a by-election in the district later in the year by acclamation. In the 1926 election he won the seat in the electoral district of Cypress, and again in 1930. He lost the seat in the 1935 election to Social Credit candidate August Flamme. He served as Minister of Education from 1921 to 1935.
