The fonds consists of documents of the George Church estate: receipts, dividend statements, insurance policies, and appraisal reports of his farm properties. The UFA Co-op acted as a trustee of the estate on behalf of Mrs. Church.
George Ernest Church, 1890-1961, was born in Ottawa, Ontario. In 1892 his family homesteaded at Balzac, Alberta. George was educated in Calgary and at Alberta College in Edmonton. In 1916 he married Jane Luella Rae, 1891-1964, and they had three daughters, Margaret (Reid), Lois (Rosenberger), and Mabel (Bancroft). He operated a mixed dairy farm in the Balzac area called the Wagon Wheel, and was noted for breeding Percheron horses. He was very active in the United Farmers of Alberta, serving as a director and eventually becoming president in 1945. He was president of the United Farmers of Alberta Co-operative Limited from 1949 until his death in 1961. In 1975 he was inducted into the Alberta Agriculture Hall of Fame. .
