Custodial History
Milton Henry "Milt" Ward, 1890-1994, was born in Nogies Creek, Ontario. In 1905 he migrated with his family to Arrowwood, a community east of High River, Alberta. He assisted his father, and established his own homestead in the district at an early age. He also worked as a ranch hand and blacksmith. He became a manager in the Crowsnest Pass coal mining industry during the First World War, but returned to farming and ranching in the Arrowwood district. He served on the council of the Municipal District of Marquis from 1916 to 1941. He was an active member of the United Farmers of Alberta, serving as a director from 1932 to 1969, a delegate to the Alberta Wheat Pool, and a director of the Arrowwood Co-operative Association. In 1977 he was inducted into the Alberta Agriculture Hall of Fame. He was married twice, to Lena Steiner, ?-1923, and to Myrtle Foreman, 1903-1995. He had six children: Ruby Della (Fletcher), Audrey Helen (Neubauer), Shirley Margaret (Hood), Jack Foreman, George Alan, and Beverly Joan (Weeks).

Scope and Content
The collection consists of published pamphlets, a few issues of the newsletter Wheat Pool Budget, and a promotional calendar. Includes collected books and pamphlets about the grain trade, and handbooks used by the Alberta Wheat Pool elevator agent in Falher, Alberta.
Administrative History
Alberta Co-operative Wheat Producers Ltd. was established in 1923 at the instigation of the United Farmers of Alberta. It was familiarly known as Alberta Wheat Pool, which soon became its legal name. Its members agreed to five-year contracts for grain marketing, and this gave the Pool a strong foothold in the market. Initially it contracted to use the storage and shipping facilities of other grain companies, but soon it was able to capitalize the construction of a network of elevators which eventually dominated the industry in Alberta. In 1998 it merged with Manitoba Wheat Pool to form Agricore Cooperative Ltd. In 2001 Agricore was purchased by United Grain Growers Ltd. and the new firm was branded Agricore United. In 2007 Agricore United was acquired by Saskatchewan Wheat Pool, and the new company was named Viterra Inc.
Custodial History
The materials were collected in the office of United Farmers of Alberta Co-operative Ltd.
