Administrative History
Alberta Co-operative Wheat Producers Ltd. was established in 1923 at the instigation of the United Farmers of Alberta. It was familiarly known as Alberta Wheat Pool, which soon became its legal name. Its members agreed to five-year contracts for grain marketing, and this gave the Pool a strong foothold in the market. Initially it contracted to use the storage and shipping facilities of other grain companies, but soon it was able to capitalize the construction of a network of elevators which eventually dominated the industry in Alberta. In 1998 it merged with Manitoba Wheat Pool to form Agricore Cooperative Ltd. In 2001 Agricore was purchased by United Grain Growers Ltd. and the new firm was branded Agricore United. In 2007 Agricore United was acquired by Saskatchewan Wheat Pool, and the new company was named Viterra Inc.

Limited was incorporated under the Companies Act of Alberta to allow the newspaper to operate with legal independence. The U.F.A. was renamed The United Farmer in 1934 and ceased publication in 1936.
